Half as deep as you think

Knowledge workers misestimate their own deep work by roughly a factor of two. Being at the desk is not doing the work — and memory keeps the flattering version.

The plainest intervention works before any other: a recorded log. Self-monitoring alone changes behavior, because the numbers refuse to flatter.

You wouldn’t train without tracking a single lift. The workday deserves the same honesty.
